Sarah Gillies

Sarah Gillies was appointed Chief Executive of the Electricity Authority in December 2022.

A lawyer by background, Sarah has worked in large law firms and corporate environments in both legal and senior leadership roles. Her regulatory experience began in the telecommunications sector, where she was involved in significant regulatory reform.

Sarah also spent several years with a global data and technology company, holding a range of roles including leading its New Zealand business for a period. She joined the Electricity Authority in 2019 as General Manager, Legal, Monitoring and Compliance.

Sarah is interested in technology, data and complex regulatory environments. She has held governance roles, including serving on the board of a technology start-up.
